Ultimate Packing List - Alaska
We loved our Alaska cruise but I remember not being sure what to bring and definitely overpacked. I am not the only one as we get lots of questions about what to pack for a cruise to Alaska. We are going to give you a packing list I wish I had before my trip so you can be prepared for your Alaska cruise.

Did you know that Alaska is a temperate rainforest? This means in one day you could experience a variety of weather conditions. To organize our Alaska packing list we broke it down into 6 categories: clothing for Alaska weather, footwear, clothing for on the cruise ship, technology, toiletries, and other items.
As the Alaska cruise season is mainly the spring summer and fall we are going to go over an Alaska packing list summer cruise as you can easily modify it for any season. Having clothing for a base layer, fleece layer and outer layer will help you be prepared. For the base layer you can bring short and long sleeve shirts. For the fleece layer sweaters or thick long sleeve shirts work great. A light winter jacket also works well as you can fit them under the rain coat if needed. For the outer layer having a rain coat or wind breaker is important. The odds are it is going to be raining when you are there and the excursions continue anyway, so you want to be able to stay dry. Having these three layers means you are going to stay dry but can also take layers off if you get hot and can add layers on the cooler days. This is an easy and important way to think of our Alaska cruise guide. You only need one outer layer if you have lots of base and fleece layers to stay warm. Other Alaska cruise tips and tricks I have for packing is to always put in some extra zip lock bags. They are great for your phone and snacks.
Our Alaska packing list cruise clothes are also included. Before sailing you will want to check what your cruise lines requirements are for the formal nights. For women I was able to wear a dress with a scarf or cardigan. I did not go full ball gown, just a nice dress I would wear to work or out for dinner with friends. We found Norwegian Cruise lines dress code to be the most relaxed. Royal Caribbean and Princess cruises is the middle of the road. For men long pants and a collared shirt is the minimum requirement we have seen. You are usually safe with a long sleeve shirt and tie. Not many cruise lines require a jacket these days. Most other evenings I would wear leggings with a nice shirt and scarf or jeans with a nice shirt. Aron often wore jeans with a polo shirt. You will also want to pack a swimsuit for the pool or hot tubs. I like to bring some workout clothes or clothes that you can wear for the different activities on board. Some cruise ships have rock climbing walls and high ropes courses so it is nice to have something comfortable for that.
