Cruise News - Everything is now cancelled until September!
The Cruise Line International Association (CLIA) made an announcement suspending all cruises from US ports until September 15th. Why would they cancel all cruises? What will the impact of the cancellations be? All that and more in todays Cruise News.
The CLIA is the largest cruise association that includes over 50 cruise lines and represents 95% of global cruising. This will have a huge impact on cruising in the US. The major cruise lines included are Princess Cruise Line, Disney Cruise Line, Norwegian Cruise Line, Carnival Cruise Line and more. This is a big cruise news update for the cruise and tourism industry.
The announcement includes passenger ships that were affected by the CDCs no sail order that expires July 24th. This helps cruise lines have extra time to ensure that they can meet safety measures and reduce the risk when cruising. It will also help prevent different cruise lines from coming out weekly announcing new cancellations. It feels like there has been cruise news daily with more cancellations.
Looking at this cruise news latest announcement we also review some of the stats around COVID 19 in the US and why the CLIA might have come out to specifically suspend cruising in the US. Some governments have already stated that their ports are closed beyond the CDCs no sail order so the CLIA did not need to make an announcement for those countries.
There are going to be a lot of people disappointed to hear this cancelled cruises update. It not only affects families vacations but thousands of people who depend on the cruise industry for employment. This was not an easy decision to make but we understand they are focused on passenger and crew safety.
