Big Royal Caribbean Cruise News

There has been a lot happening in the cruise news world last week. Royal Caribbean has had to postpone the maiden voyage of their new ship again, but they also did had a new announcement. Additionally Disney has announced they will be having celebrations and holidays at sea. We also talk about the Carnival data breach. All that and more in today's cruise line news video, so be sure to check out our cruise line news today.

Simulated cruises are starting in Florida and Royal Caribbean Cruise line had their brand new cruise ship, the Odyssey of the Seas, scheduled to set sail July 3rd but that date has now been moved to July 31st. This delay is because 8 crew members have tested positive for covid 19. Of the 8 cases 6 of them were asymptomatic and two had mild symptoms. As they traced these cases it had not been two weeks since their final vaccine. We do see modern media sensationalizing this cruise line news story as it makes for a flashy headline. As much as it is disappointing to delay the maiden voyage again it shows that the process and protocols to identify cases does work.

There was also some very positive and exciting Royal Caribbean Cruise line news, they have begun construction on their newest cruise ship and class of ship the Icon of the Seas. The Icon of the Seas is set to sail in the fall 2023 and will be Royals first cruise ship in its fleet to use LNG (Liquified natural gas). We have spoken about LNG a few times as it is far more environmentally friendly and allows for shore power connection and reduces the carbon footprint of the ship. Not much has been released about this new class of ships. We do know that it will have a capacity of about 5, 600 passengers. This makes the new Icon ships larger than the Quantum class but smaller than the Oasis class. Learning about new ships and classes of ships is our favourite cruise news update. We are excited to hear more as we get closer the maiden voyage.

Our next cruise line latest news story is about Disney Cruises. During the holiday season in the past Disney has offered two celebrations at sea. They have Halloween on the High seas and a Very Merrytime cruise. If you are a fan or want to enjoy the holidays with Disney, it has been announced that these two celebrations will be back on all of Disney's fleet for the fall of 2022. This includes Disney’s newest ship, the Wish. The Halloween on the High seas will run from mid September through to October on select sailings. Guests can dress up, characters are in costume, themed food and more. The MerryTime cruises will run from early November through December with decorations and special holiday entertainment. If you are interested in one of these sailings they go on sail June 24th 2021. This is big cruise news today as many people specifically book these cruises and make it part of their families traditions. It will be nice to have them back next year.

Our final cruise line news story this week has to do with Carnival cruise line. Carnival Corp said that in March they had a data breach that could have seen personal information compromised from customers and employers on Carnival Cruise Line, Holland American and Princess Cruises. Some of the information that might have been accessed is social security numbers, dates of birth, addresses and health information. They have contacted individuals who were affected and there is a call centre to answer questions. So if you haven't been contacted that is a good sign but you might want to consider updating your passwords and using password managers so each password is unique for every website.
