The FIGHT for Alaska's Cruise Season

We have some important cruise line news to cover this week. There are lots of different efforts to keep the Alaska season going for 2021 including legislation and land tours. Also Royal Caribbean has announced their new Odyssey of the Seas will be sailing from Israel. All that and more so be sure to check out our cruise news today.

With Canada announcing their cruise ban through to February 2022 it left many travellers disappointed as well as local businesses who depend on tourism. Holland America Cruise Line and Princess Cruises are a couple of the cruise lines that have been in Alaska the longest. Both companies are now taking reservations for guided tours and exploring Alaska without being on cruise ships. There is also Denali rail tours and independent hotel and sightseeing tour packages. This is important cruise line industry news as the cruise lines are trying to offer some opportunities for guests and the local businesses. Offering land tours is not completely new to these cruise lines but before it was attached to a cruise. This might be a nice option for many people who have been dreaming of going to Alaska and are in need of a vacation.

Now with all that being said, there is also some hope that cruise ship based travel to Alaska may still be on the menu for 2021. This is a hopeful cruise line news update as we know many people would like to be able to cruise in Alaska. The US House committee on transportation and infrastructure have sent a letter to the Canadian ambassador urging the Canadian government to work together to try and find a solution. One of their proposed solutions is that cruise ships be allowed to stop in Canada but not allow any passengers to disembark. This would fulfill the need for cruise ships to stop in a second country without having any passengers in Canadian cities.

More cruise lines have announced that they will be requiring vaccines.  Royal Caribbean has come out to say that starting May cruises originating in Israel will require passengers to be fully vaccinated for COVID19.  This will be onboard the all new Odyssey of the Seas and sail to the Greek Isles and Cypress.

We hope that you liked our cruise line news today. Do you think there will be cruising in Alaska this year? How do you think the mandatory vaccines will affect the cruise industry? Are there any cruise ship news stories you would like us to cover?
